Let all five leadership voices be heard

In a transformational situation it’s important to create powerful leadership teams. In this context, I like the book ‘5 Voices’ by Jeremie Kubicek
- Speaker/Author, and Steve Cockram. It lays out that there are typically 5 different leadership voices and the right mix needs to be in place and dealt with certain rules of engagement to bring the best out of the team performance. Most people have a default voice they feel most comfortable with. The voices are all incredibly important to be heard but some are typically quieter and others louder.
- Nurturer The nurturer is focused on caring for others and developing the people around them. They are committed to protecting values and principles, while providing harmony before/during/after meetings. Their voice is very valuable but tends to be too timid on the table given their focus on harmony, so proactively giving the nurturer room to address their point of views on key decisions is important.
- Creative They are future-focused both in opportunities and dangers. They have a gift to envision the future and are never satisfied with the status quo. They think outside the box. They can be idealistic and ignore practical considerations, and while initially it may not be very clear, they provide real powerful insights others don’t see yet if they are listened to and asked to explain further as they tend to also be one of the quieter voices.
- Guardian They are wired to preserve and protect, ensure established systems aren't lost, and ask the difficult questions. They are committed to delivering on time and on budget and need to be convinced change is necessary. They are not against change but need to see the thoughtful steps ahead. They are already a louder voice.
- Connector They are geniuses in connecting people and ideas, rallying others around causes, and have boundless creativity and imagination. Sometimes, they can be overly focused on pleasing others to keep everyone everyone behind an idea. They tend to hijack conversations and are often one of the loudest voices in a team.
- Pioneer They are strategic thinkers, experts at aligning resources to deliver big-picture visions, and have tenacity, energy, and the desire to win. Achieving the bigger mission is most important to them. They can be too much me-focused, and drive too hard in the eyes of others. They are the loudest voice and it’s better to speak last. Which of the 5 voices is more your default and which are your team members? Are their voices missing? Do all voices get enough share of voice for important decisions? ...meer
